The Council of Ministers has approved €1.5 million for the dredging and renovation of Larnaca Marina, Transport Minister Alexis Vafeades announced on Wednesday.
“These works are essential for the safe operation of the marina, ensuring vessels can enter and exit securely, and for enhancing overall security in the area,” Vafeades said after the Council’s meeting.
The project aims to address long-standing concerns from the local community, with Vafeades confirming that studies for the dredging have already been completed. "This action is part of our commitments to the people of Larnaca. We promised to get this done as quickly as possible, and we’re delivering," he added.
The next step involves launching a tender for the project, which will cover both the dredging work and broader marina upgrades. Once the tender is completed, the renovation is expected to take about six months.
“Our goal is to have the project up and running soon for the benefit of the marina’s users,” the minister said.
The upgrade is part of broader efforts to improve maritime infrastructure in Cyprus, with local stakeholders welcoming the move as a significant step forward for Larnaca. Boaters, residents, and tourists alike are expected to benefit from the improved safety and modernized facilities.
Larnaca Marina has long been a focal point for the city, and these renovations are set to enhance its appeal as both a recreational hub and an important part of Cyprus’ maritime landscape.
