All available data indicate that the government’s migration policies are producing results, Deputy Minister of Migration Nicholas Ioannides said.

Speaking on the Morning Commute program, Ioannidis said the government aims to establish a sustainable asylum system.

He reported that from January through today, there have been 1,900 new arrivals and asylum applications, while 8,500 repatriations and relocations have taken place.

Ioannides said irregular migrants often depart from African countries and are channeled by smugglers through occupied areas into government-controlled regions.

He added that individuals engaging in criminal behavior have been deported. Currently, 250 people reside at the Pournara reception center, down from 3,000 in 2022.
