A venomous viper caused alarm after it was found inside a warehouse in Fasoula, having climbed to the highest shelf in the building, according to a local snake rescue expert.

Yiannis Aggelis, who has been fielding an increasing number of snake-related calls, was called to the scene and identified the reptile as a blunt-nosed viper, one of the most dangerous snakes in the region.

“It’s going to be a long season this year,” Aggelis said in a recent social media post. “We’ll see a lot of snakes. They’ll be looking for water, and people need to be very careful.”

Aggelis said he spotted the snake tucked into a corner near the ceiling after climbing a ladder. He was able to safely capture it and bring it down, noting its impressive size.

He explained that the snake likely entered the warehouse while hunting a mouse. This serves as a reminder, he said, of the importance of rodent control as well as general snake precautions, especially for homes and buildings near fields, rural areas, or foothills.

Snake experts continue to urge caution as sightings increase with the warmer weather.
