Authorities are investigating the death of a 34-year-old man whose body was found Friday morning in an open area of Ayia Napa, though police say there is no indication of foul play.

An autopsy was conducted Saturday at Nicosia General Hospital by Deputy State Pathologist Nikolaos Charalambous but failed to determine the cause of death. Officials said samples were collected for further scientific and laboratory testing.

“The autopsy did not reveal the cause of death,” said Andreas Constantinou, spokesperson for the Famagusta Police Directorate. “Samples were taken and will undergo the necessary examinations.”

The man, a European national who was a permanent resident of Cyprus and worked in Ayia Napa, was found around 6:05 a.m. Friday. Police secured the scene and began an investigation.

“Based on the evidence currently available, there is nothing to suggest criminal activity,” Constantinou said.

The investigation is being handled by the Famagusta Criminal Investigation Department and the Ayia Napa Police Station.
