Cyprus Police have announced increased road safety measures for the upcoming Easter and Resurrection holiday period, as is customary every year. The aim is to protect citizens traveling on the road network during this festive season.
Due to the anticipated surge in traffic between Maundy Thursday and Easter Monday, from May 2nd to May 6th, police presence will be heightened on major urban arteries, intercity roads, and highways. Police personnel will be continuously engaged in intensified patrols, traffic regulation, and traffic checks to prevent road accidents and enhance safety on the roads.
During traffic checks, zero tolerance will be exercised towards violations that are major contributors to serious and fatal accidents. These include speeding, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, failure to use seat belts by drivers and passengers, lack of protective helmets for motorcyclists, distracted driving such as using mobile phones, and dangerous overtaking.
The Police urge drivers to exercise caution, adhere to traffic regulations, and comply with traffic signs and instructions from on-duty officers while driving.
