The investigation into allegations by Makarios Drousiotis against former President Nicos Anastasiades is expected to exceed one million euros, far surpassing earlier estimates of tens or hundreds of thousands, Politis newspaper reported.
The probe, sparked by claims made in Drousiotis’ book Mafia State, involved 214 hearings and sessions and called 129 witnesses from Cyprus and abroad, some of whom testified multiple times.
According to the report, once the final section of the investigation is submitted, the officers in charge will also send the total cost to the Anti-Corruption Authority, which is anticipated to reach seven figures.
The inquiry has relied on more than 550 pieces of evidence, representing tens of thousands of pages, all of which have been digitized. Given the sheer volume of testimony and documentation, investigators are submitting their report to the authority in stages, with completion expected in October.
The Anti-Corruption Authority will release a full account of its findings and decisions once the process concludes.
