Cypriot hammer throw athlete Iosif Kesidis secured on Thursday the Gold Medal in the U20 World Athletics Championships, taking place in Lima, Peru.
The Cypriot athlete with the gold medal marked a major success for Cyprus Athletics and Cyprus sports in general.
The 19-year-old athlete, who is being coached by Panicos Charalampous, performed an amazing final in the sport of hammer and with a shot at 82.80, won the gold medal and raised the Cypriot flag high.
With this shot, Kesidis achieved a new national record, while it is the sixth best performance of all time in the world.
Kesidis had other excellent throws over 80m, with the 3rd throw reaching 80.95 and the 4th 81.53, which up to that time was a new U20 national record and 10th best throw in the world of all seasons.
Kesidis' shots were:
1st shot: 79.47m.
2nd shot: 76.91m.
3rd shot: 80.95m.
4th shot: 81.53m.
5th shot: 78.71m.
6th shot: 82.80m.
