Former District Judge Doria Varosiotou was denied permanent appointment after the Supreme Judicial Council found her actions “undermine the integrity” of the justice system.
Varosiotou’s tenure was marked by “serious errors” and repeated defiance of court orders, including ignoring a ruling that allowed a forensic pathologist to testify in a key case, a fundamental legal breach. She also sparked a public judicial feud by altering coroner’s inquiry findings without legal authority, prompting widespread controversy after a newspaper exposed the dispute.
Despite serving on probation since July 2023, the council cited her “insufficient legal knowledge” and poor understanding of judicial limits. The Supreme Court condemned her disregard for protocol and institutional authority, highlighting multiple procedural blunders.
Varosiotou’s legal team vows to fight the decision, which the council initially refused to release, raising questions about transparency in judicial oversight.
