If you’ve been waiting for the weather to pick a lane, today is your day. That omnipresent seasonal low-pressure system is still lingering over us, but it’s decided to behave itself. There are no wild wind tunnels or spike days on the horizon; just a perfectly standard, middle-of-the-road day.
The island is looking at mostly clear skies across the board, with temperatures hovering exactly where the meteorologists expect them to be at this time of year.
Inland: Topping out at 37°C. It’s a comfortable notch below the 40°C mark, meaning you can walk to get your lunch without melting into the pavement.
The west coast: Once again, the west is the coolest spot on the coastline, sitting at a highly enviable 29°C.
The rest of the coasts: Expect a steady 33°C if you are anywhere else along the periphery.
The high peaks: Troodos matches the west coast’s energy, checking in at a crisp 28°C.
Wind and waves: The morning kicks off with gentle, variable breezes at 3 to 4 Beaufort. If you are heading down to the south coast later this afternoon, though, expect things to get a little lively as the wind steps it up to a firm 5 Beaufort. The sea remains perfectly safe for a swim, staying mostly calm to slight.
Tonight: The evening stays clear and pleasant for the most part, but the moisture levels are doing something interesting as we transition into early Friday morning.
You might notice an increase in low-lying cloud cover in the west as the night progresses. Keep an eye out in the eastern half of the island if you're driving late or very early; low clouds, thin mist, or even localized fog are expected to develop. Winds drop to a faint 3 Beaufort, keeping the sea smooth and slight.
Looking ahead, Friday is a clean copy-and-paste of today’s clear, sunny conditions.
The real plot twist arrives over the weekend. While temperatures won't budge much through Sunday, keeping us locked into our seasonal averages, Saturday and Sunday afternoons will see a buildup of temporary cloud cover. If you are planning a Sunday hike up in the peaks to escape the city heat, you might want to pack an umbrella. There's a rogue, isolated shower forecast for the mountains.
