A 46-year-old woman who was critically injured in an attempted murder-suicide in Limassol has regained consciousness, with police now waiting for doctors to determine when she is well enough to provide a statement.
The woman remains hospitalized in serious condition in the Intensive Care Unit of Nicosia General Hospital, but her recovery has allowed investigators to move closer to obtaining what could be a crucial account of what happened on June 30.
Police sources said investigators from the Limassol Police Department are waiting for approval from her treating doctors before attempting to question her.
Her testimony is considered a key part of the investigation, as authorities work to complete the case file and answer remaining questions surrounding the violent incident.
The tragedy unfolded on the morning of June 30 outside Agios Spyridonas High School in Limassol, when the woman was allegedly shot by her 55-year-old husband, a serving police officer, who later turned the gun on himself and died.
According to the information gathered by police, the 55-year-old reported for duty shortly after 6 a.m. that morning. After receiving his service weapon, he reportedly told colleagues he needed to leave briefly for some work and would return within minutes.
He later met his wife outside the school on Ilision Street, where the couple allegedly became involved in an intense argument inside the woman’s car.
A passerby who noticed the confrontation attempted to intervene. Police said the husband allegedly ordered the citizen to leave while threatening him with his service weapon.
Moments later, according to witness accounts, the man allegedly shot his wife before turning the weapon on himself.
The case has shocked the local community and raised questions about domestic violence, warning signs, and the handling of firearms by individuals involved in personal disputes.
Police investigations are continuing, with authorities now awaiting medical clearance to hear directly from the woman at the center of the case.
