Iranian media reported Monday that the wife of Iran’s late Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has died after being critically injured during recent US-Israeli strikes.
According to the semi-official Tasnim news agency, Mansoureh Khojasteh Bagherzadeh, 79, had remained in a coma since the attacks on Saturday that also killed Khamenei. Her death comes one day after Iranian authorities confirmed the Supreme Leader was among several family members killed in the operation.
Tehran previously announced that the strikes claimed the lives of Khamenei’s daughter, grandson, son-in-law, and a daughter-in-law. The large-scale assault by the United States and Israel reportedly targeted senior Iranian leadership figures.
In response, Iran has launched drone and missile attacks aimed at Israel and at Gulf states hosting US military assets, escalating tensions across the region.
Washington and Tel Aviv say their actions are driven by concerns over Iran’s nuclear and missile activities, which they argue pose a threat to Israel and US partners. Iranian officials reject those claims, maintaining that the country’s nuclear program is strictly for peaceful purposes and not intended for weapons development.
