Kimberly Guilfoyle, a former California prosecutor, television personality, and close ally of U.S. President Donald Trump, officially began her duties Tuesday as the first woman ever to serve as U.S. ambassador to Greece.
Guilfoyle, 56, presented her diplomatic credentials to Greek President Constantine Tassoulas at the Presidential Mansion, marking the formal start of her tenure. She had been sworn in back in Washington on September 29.
The former Fox News host and one-time fiancée of Donald Trump Jr. takes on the role at a time when Washington is looking to strengthen its foothold in southeastern Europe, with Greece serving as a key player in regional energy and defense strategy.
U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright and Interior Secretary Doug Burgum are also in Athens this week for talks on expanding liquefied natural gas exports to Ukraine and other European partners through Greek ports and pipeline networks. Guilfoyle will join them in meetings with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and other senior officials at sessions organized by the Atlantic Council.
Since 2018, the two allies have tightened their military cooperation, expanding U.S. access to Greek bases and boosting American defense contractors’ involvement in Greece’s modernization programs. The new ambassador is expected to help push that partnership further, balancing diplomacy with trade and energy interests.
Over the weekend, Guilfoyle made a splash at a black-tie welcome reception in Athens, where she was seen joining in a traditional Greek dance, keeping pace as the music sped up.
“I know we will do amazing things for these two exceptional countries,” she told guests. “I will not disappoint the United States of America. I shall not disappoint Greece.”
Her arrival, following that of new ambassadors from Norway and Canada, adds a bit of celebrity flair to Washington’s presence in Athens, and underscores the Biden administration’s continued interest in deepening U.S.-Greek ties amid shifting energy routes and regional tensions.
