Korean boy dies three weeks after pool incident

Parents lose young child in hospital during family vacation after earlier near-drown scare

A 4-year-old boy from South Korea, who fell into the pool and nearly drowned three weeks ago, died Sunday morning at Makarios Children’s Hospital in Nicosia.

On June 6, the little boy fell into the swimming pool of an apartment complex in Tremithousa, Paphos district, where the family was renting a holiday residence.

The incident occurred just one day following a similar situation, when another a 4-year-old boy from Russia fell into the swimming pool at his family’s vacation rental home in Peristerona, also in Paphos district.

Officials had said at that time that both boys were doing okay.

But reports on Sunday said the Korean boy was unable to pull through. He died in the early hours Sunday morning.
