Police have launched a wide-ranging operation across Larnaca, resulting in 10 arrests so far, in the wake of last weekend’s violent incident near police headquarters.

According to the Larnaca Police Directorate, the operation began on Wednesday afternoon and involves searches at multiple premises in both the city and the wider Larnaca district. Authorities say the action is ongoing and further developments are expected.

Police spokesperson Spyros Chrysostomou confirmed that the operation is being carried out on a broad scale, describing it as a coordinated effort targeting locations linked to serious criminal activity.

“Searches are underway at various premises in the city and province of Larnaca,” Chrysostomou said, adding that 10 individuals have been arrested to date.

While police have not officially linked the operation to specific suspects or charges, the move follows heightened concern over organized criminal activity, sparked by a violent confrontation that took place in close proximity to police headquarters over the weekend.

That incident, which unfolded in a busy public area during daylight hours, prompted intense public scrutiny and political debate over law enforcement capabilities and crime prevention.

Authorities have not ruled out additional arrests as investigations continue.

Police say further updates will be issued as the operation progresses.
