A biker in rural Limassol lost his life on Saturday when his motorcycle veered off the road and ended up in a field where it crashed violently into a tree.
According to police, 45-year-old Russian national Igor Elistratov was riding his motorcycle along the Trimiklini-Ayios Mamas road in Limassol district on Saturday afternoon when he got involved in a road accident.
Elistratov, known locally as a nature and biker enthusiast, was moving eastbound along the scenic route when he reportedly failed to negotiate a right turn around 1:45pm.
Police said Elistratov lost control of the handlebars and the motorcycle veered off the road, ending up in a field and crashing violently into a tree that was cut in half. The biker was then rushed to the Emergency Room at Limassol General Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
Elistratov, a permanent resident of the Republic of Cyprus, was married while local media said he leaves behind two children. He was also known to enjoy solo tours with his brand new motorcycle, which he had acquired last summer.
There was no information on whether the biker was alone at the time of the incident but police said the biker was wearing full riding gear and a protective helmet at the time of the incident.
