No one hurt, but locals worry as shootings spike across Cyprus.

Gunfire shattered the calm of Limassol’s New Year’s Eve celebrations when an unknown attacker opened fire on a downtown hotel, fleeing the scene on a motorcycle, police said.

The attack, which occurred shortly after 6 p.m., comes amid growing unease over what authorities and locals describe as a recent surge in shootings and violent incidents across Cyprus. While no one was hurt in this latest episode, the brazen nature of the attack, targeting a hotel with no known history of trouble, has residents on edge.

Police swiftly cordoned off the area, collecting shell casings for ballistics analysis and reviewing hours of CCTV footage from the hotel and nearby businesses in a bid to identify the gunman. Statements were taken from hotel staff and bystanders, but authorities caution that the investigation is still ongoing and that any conclusions will come carefully.

“This is a serious incident, and we are examining all possibilities,” said a police spokesperson. “We urge the public to remain calm and let the investigation run its course.”

For business owners and locals, the incident is a stark reminder that even familiar streets in the heart of Limassol are not immune to the rise in gun violence. As authorities continue their probe, questions linger about who is behind these attacks and whether more could follow.
