Cyprus is sending a clear signal: citizens want results, and the government is listening. On Monday, Minister of Justice and Public Order Konstantinos Fytiris toured police departments in Famagusta and Larnaca, as well as the Police Air Operations Unit, underlining that public safety is a top priority.
According to the ministry, these visits are the first in a series planned across the island, giving Fytiris direct contact with officers to hear about their working conditions, challenges, and ideas for improvement. The goal, he said, is to understand firsthand what’s happening on the ground and develop a practical action plan that doesn’t just respond to crime but prevents it.
“Citizens demand security, and we are taking that seriously,” Fytiris said. He gave clear instructions for a stronger, more visible police presence across neighborhoods, with increased patrols, targeted checks, and preventive operations in high-risk areas.
The minister stressed that police work must focus on stopping crimes before they happen, as well as responding decisively to all forms of delinquency. “The ultimate goal is simple,” the Ministry said in a statement: “Citizens should feel safe in their daily lives, knowing that the state operates, protects, and does not back down in the face of crime.”
By putting officers and resources where they are most needed, Fytiris aims to restore confidence in law enforcement and ensure that residents can walk their streets with peace of mind, a promise that will be measured by actions, not just words.
