A 54-year-old Limassol resident reported losing €30,000 in a cryptocurrency scam after being deceived by an individual he met online.

According to the Limassol Criminal Investigation Department (CID), the man received a friend request last February from a woman who identified herself as Anna Andre. Through their daily interactions, Andre convinced him to invest in an online cryptocurrency platform.

Following her instructions, the man set up an electronic wallet and transferred €30,000 from his bank account in four separate transactions to the platform. Initially, he observed profits from his investment. However, when he attempted to withdraw the funds, he was unable to access his money and realized he had been scammed.

The Limassol CID’s Financial Crime Investigation Office is currently investigating the case.
