According to a Facebook post by the Animal Party Cyprus (APC), a horrifying case of animal cruelty has come to light in the municipality of Peyia. A volunteer discovered a live dog trapped in a garbage bin, tightly bound in three feed bags.
"The dog’s cries were heard by a passing volunteer, who immediately took action with the help of others," stated APC in the post. Upon retrieving the dog, it was revealed that its head had been forcefully turned to fit into the bags.
The party described the condition of the dog as dire. "The animal was barely breathing, with a swollen tongue and trembling eyes," the post noted. The dog is now receiving care at a private veterinary clinic, but its prognosis remains uncertain.
The Animal Party Cyprus has called for an immediate investigation into the incident, urging local authorities to act swiftly. "We urgently request the animal police, the Mayor of Peyia, and the veterinary services to investigate this heinous act without delay," the APC stated.
This incident raises serious concerns about the enforcement of animal welfare laws in the country. Authorities are now under pressure to identify those responsible for what the APC has described as a "murderous act" and to bring them to justice.
