The owner of the dogs, Evangelos Sokratous, speaking on Sigma's 'Noon and Something' show, said, "It's been a devastating day for all of us, a shocking day for my family."
He even explained how the incident happened, saying, "The two puppies escaped my attention when I opened the electric gate and got into my car and in a short time I heard two shots," adding, "He shot them in cold blood, he is my neighbor, he knows the puppies."
In fact, according to Socrates, the perpetrator claimed that the puppies were eating his chickens and various birds he raises.
"We have a very close relationship with his two brothers," Sokratous said.
The Animal Party Cyprus issued a statement on the case, calling on the police to investigate.
The statement
The Animal Party Cyprus strongly condemns this new murder of two innocent dogs.
The nagging questions are:
1. Did the dogs have a guardian?
2. Were they registered with the municipality?
3. Were they microchipped?
4. Why were they loose and off leash?
5. Were the rabbits properly fenced? Were the dogs free to reign?
6. Did the yard have proper fencing?
The Animal Party Cyprus insists that the above criminal act does not benefit anyone and we should now all consider that on the one hand the laws are left in drawers, on the other hand there is a total lack of policing and prevention and generally, it is the innocent animals who pay in the end.
We will expect the animal police to show the same sensitivity and to investigate this crime thoroughly and where there is responsibility, it will be dealt with immediately.
