The Greek National Basketball Team has arrived in Cyprus, ready to tip off their FIBA EuroBasket 2025 campaign at the Spyros Kyprianou Sports Center in Limassol. Touching down at Larnaca Airport just after 3 p.m. on Tuesday, August 26, the squad is the last of the national teams to arrive for the top European tournament.
Coach Vassilis Spanoulis’ roster of twelve includes NBA superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo, who had skipped the earlier ECOMMBX Cup held at the same venue. Alongside him are Thanasis Antetokounmpo, Kostas Antetokounmpo, Tyler Dorsey, Panagiotis Kalaitzakis, Giannoulis Larentzakis, Dinos Mitoglou, Kostas Papanikolaou, Alexander Samodurov, Kostas Sloukas, Vasilis Toliopoulos, and Dimitris Katsivelis.
The Greek squad kicks off Group C play on August 28 against Italy at 9:30 p.m., before facing Cyprus in what will be the first official match between the two countries on August 30 at 6:15 p.m. They then square off with Georgia (August 31, 3 p.m.), Bosnia and Herzegovina (September 2, 3 p.m.), and conclude group play against defending champion Spain (September 4, 9:30 p.m.).
Spanoulis’ team comes in with an eye on reaching the podium once again, aiming to improve on their last EuroBasket medal—the bronze earned in 2009.
In pre-tournament friendlies, Greece posted wins over Belgium (74-60), Montenegro (69-61), Latvia (104-86), and Italy (76-74), while suffering losses to Serbia (66-76), Israel (58-75), and France (77-92). Giannis made his friendly debut for the team against Latvia, making an immediate impact.
Tickets for the Greek National Team games are nearly sold out, but the remaining seats, as well as tickets for other EuroBasket matches, are available at www.more.com.
