Weather forecast: Sunshine with a chance of grumpy clouds

The mountains may stage a shower or two, the coastlines get breezy, and inland heat refuses to clock out.

Newsroom

A seasonal low-pressure system is running the weather desk today, bringing mostly clear skies with a side order of afternoon theatrics.

Today: The morning will start off simple with mostly clear skies. But as the day warms up, clouds will roll in, especially over the mountains. After midday, some of them may let loose with isolated showers or even a thunderstorm, short-lived, but loud enough to make a point. Winds will blow from southwest to northwest, though some northern gusts may sneak in early. They’ll stay light to moderate (3-4 Beaufort), but by the afternoon, coastal areas could see winds crank up to strong (5 Beaufort). Seas will start off calm to slightly rough, becoming generally slightly rough later. Temperatures will rise to 38°C inland, around 34°C on the southeastern, eastern, and northern coasts, 32°C on the remaining coasts, and a cooler 27°C up in the higher mountains.

Tonight: Mostly clear, with patches of low cloud sneaking into the west and north. Later on, isolated fog may form, the kind that turns a midnight walk into a mystery movie. Winds will keep to southwest-to-northwest, light to moderate (3-4 Beaufort), gradually easing to light (3 Beaufort) and locally variable. The sea will calm down in the east and south, but stay slightly rough in the west and north. Temperatures will dip to 23°C inland, 24°C along the coasts, and a brisk 18°C in the higher mountains.

Thursday, Friday & Saturday: Expect mostly clear skies, though in the afternoons, the mountains may see extra cloud cover, with the occasional isolated shower as a reminder that summer isn’t totally predictable.

Temperatures: Holding steady on Thursday, then gradually easing down through Saturday, landing near seasonal norms, proof that even August eventually runs out of steam.
