What was supposed to be a picture-perfect moment on a Greek island quickly slithered out of control. Claude Frantz from Luxembourg had just parked his car on a scenic overlook at his wife’s request, who wanted a shot with the sparkling sea in the background.
As she stepped toward the cliffside, posing for the perfect Instagram-worthy photo, she suddenly screamed; something had bitten her leg. The culprit? A small but venomous viper hiding in the grass.
“I later realized I had actually captured the snake in my photos while she was getting first aid,” Frantz wrote in a Facebook post for Reptiles & Amphibians of Greece and Cyprus.
Thankfully, Frantz rushed his wife to the island’s health center for treatment, and she is expected to recover fully.
While this story ended well, it’s a sharp reminder for travelers: always keep an eye on where you step in natural areas. Even a quick photo stop can lead to unexpected and potentially dangerous wildlife encounters.
