Liz Truss to freeze energy bills for households

The plan could cost between £100 billion and £130 billion

British Prime Minister Liz Truss plans to freeze household energy bills at their current level for this winter and the next, paid for by government-backed loans to energy suppliers, the BBC reported Tuesday.

"Energy companies will take out government-backed loans to bridge the gap between the wholesale price and the fixed price they charge customers," the BBC said.

"These loans will be repaid over the next 10 to 20 years through charges on customers' bills."

The scheme could cost between £100 billion and £130 billion, according to the same sources.
