Police detained a 48-year-old man Tuesday afternoon in connection with the stabbing of a supermarket employee in Paphos.
Authorities said the incident began around 6 p.m. when store staff spotted the man taking items without paying. When employees tried to intervene, the suspect allegedly pulled a knife, injuring a 24-year-old worker.
Officers arrived quickly and found the suspect nearby as he attempted to flee in a vehicle. Police recovered the knife and stolen items and took him into custody. He is facing multiple charges, including grievous bodily harm, robbery, carrying a knife, and inflicting injury.
The injured employee was transported to Paphos General Hospital with a leg wound. Officials said his condition is stable and not life-threatening.
