A 39-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the violent assault of a 34-year-old man in Chloraka, police said Thursday.
The incident occurred around 10 p.m. Wednesday on a road in Chloraka, when the 34-year-old was traveling in a car with a 46-year-old and a 40-year-old passenger. According to police, a vehicle driven by the suspect allegedly overtook their car, struck the front right side, and then blocked their path by stopping in front of them.
The suspect and a 36-year-old passenger exited their vehicle. The 39-year-old was allegedly holding a metal chain, and the 36-year-old was reportedly armed with a metal pipe.
As the 34-year-old driver attempted to reverse and flee, he crashed into the wall of a nearby home. At that point, the two suspects allegedly attacked him, striking him in the arm and leg with the pipe and chain. The 39-year-old also reportedly issued threats during the attack, police said.
The 34-year-old sustained bruises to his leg. During the initial collision and the crash into the wall, the 40-year-old passenger in the car was also injured and remains hospitalized at Paphos General Hospital.
Police arrested the 39-year-old suspect shortly before 1:30 a.m. Thursday.
The Paphos Central Police Station is leading the assault investigation. Paphos Traffic Police are handling the vehicle collision aspect of the case.
