A man allegedly punched a municipal employee after the worker removed towels the suspect had placed on a sunbed in an attempt to reserve it, authorities said Saturday.
The incident took place at a beach in Protaras and caused a public disturbance, according to a statement from the Municipality of Paralimni-Deryneia. The municipal employee was following official guidelines when he moved the towels, the statement said.
The suspect fled the scene but was later located by police in cooperation with municipal officials. Authorities said he is expected to appear in court.
The municipality condemned the attack and said it is being investigated as a case of assault and bodily harm. Officials emphasized that any behavior threatening the safety or dignity of municipal staff will be met with legal action.
The municipality also expressed full support for the employee involved and reaffirmed its backing for all municipal workers carrying out their duties.
