An early morning fire caused extensive damage to an apartment in Larnaca on Sunday, prompting a large response from local fire crews.
The blaze broke out at around 3:37 a.m. in a fourth-floor apartment on Armenikis Ekklisias Street, according to Fire Service spokesperson Andreas Kettis, who shared the details in a post on the social media platform X.
Five fire engines from Larnaca stations responded to the scene. Firefighters used water hoses and a telescopic ladder truck to reach the flames. Crews wearing breathing apparatus entered the apartment to fight the fire from within.
Firefighters were able to prevent the blaze from spreading to neighboring units, all of which were unoccupied at the time, Kettis said.
Personnel were recalled to duty to assist with the response.
The apartment, which was being used as an office, suffered heavy damage to furniture, documents, and painted surfaces throughout. Police said the individual using the space is currently abroad. No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the police, the Fire Service, and the Department of Electromechanical Services.
