Man pushes officer off motorcycle in dramatic arrest

Officer injured, motorcycle damaged in confrontation during routine stop.

A 37-year-old Iraqi man was arrested Friday afternoon in old Nicosia after allegedly pushing a police officer off his motorcycle during a routine stop, authorities said.

According to police, the incident occurred around 4:30 p.m. when the officer stopped the man for an identity check. The man reportedly reacted aggressively, verbally abusing the officer before pushing him and attempting to flee.

The officer pursued him on a police motorcycle and managed to intercept him. However, the man allegedly pushed the officer again, causing him to fall to the ground.

The officer was treated for minor injuries, and the motorcycle was damaged, police said.

The man is being investigated on suspicion of assault with intent to cause actual bodily harm, assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest and causing malicious damage to public property.
