A man who was wanted in connection with a nightclub incident in Nicosia over the weekend walked into a police station Sunday night, after reports with his photo said he had fled the scene following an altercation where another customer and a bouncer sustained knife injuries.

Police on Sunday released a photo of an unknown black male who was wanted for questioning in connection with a knife incident at a nightclub in Engomi in the early morning hours.

Police have been told that the suspect first got into a fight with a male customer, who sustained a knife injury in the stomach, while a bouncer who then got involved was stabbed in the chest

A 30-year-old male walked into the Lykavitos police station late at night, just after midnight, where he was arrested on attempted murder charges. He was expected to appear before a judge on Monday for a remand hearing.

According to local media, the suspect was at the nightclub before 3:15am when he got involved in a physical altercation with two other males, one customer and a member of security staff.

Police have been told that the person shown in the photo first got into a fight with a 24-year-old male customer, who sustained a knife injury in the stomach during the incident.

A 38-year-old bouncer, who also got involved, was stabbed in the chest, according to police, saying witnesses said the perpetrator then fled the scene.

No further details or motives were immediately known about the incident but police said they were investigating attempted murder.
