Police in Limassol are searching for a 54-year-old man after a jewelry businessman reported that luxury items worth almost €10 million had allegedly disappeared.

According to the complaint filed with the Limassol Criminal Investigation Department, the owner of a foreign company that manufactures precious jewelry said he entrusted the man with jewelry valued at €9.88 million to help find potential buyers.

The complainant told police that the two had worked together in the past and that the jewelry was handed over as part of an arrangement to market and sell the pieces to interested customers.

However, concerns were raised on Monday evening when the 54-year-old allegedly failed to attend a scheduled meeting where he was expected to provide an update on the sale of the jewelry.

The businessman told police that repeated attempts to contact and locate the man were unsuccessful.

Following the complaint, investigators launched an inquiry and secured a court warrant for the suspect's arrest.

The 54-year-old is wanted in connection with an alleged case of theft by agent or representative.

Police investigations are ongoing as authorities work to trace both the suspect and the missing jewelry, whose reported value makes it one of the largest theft cases currently under investigation in Cyprus.
