A 30-year-old man wanted by British authorities on murder and firearms charges was arrested at Larnaca Airport on Monday after an international arrest warrant was identified during a routine passport check.
According to police, the man had arrived in Cyprus on a flight from a country outside the European Union when officers discovered he was the subject of an international warrant issued by the United Kingdom.
The warrant relates to alleged offenses committed in 2023, including murder and the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
The suspect was taken into custody and is expected to appear before the Larnaca District Court on Tuesday, where the legal process for his extradition to the United Kingdom is set to begin.
Cyprus regularly cooperates with international law enforcement agencies in executing international arrest warrants and extradition requests.
Police have not released further details about the case or the identity of the suspect as the extradition proceedings move forward.
