Met warns of extreme low temps tonight - Troodos at -10 degrees

The warning will be in effect from 2200 Wednesday to 0700 on Thursday morning

The Met Office issued an orange warning on Wednesday morning.  The minimum temperature in the Troodos region is expected to be around -10 degrees Celsius, according to the statement.  The warning will be in effect from 22:00 Wednesday night until 07:00 Thursday morning.

The weather forecast

The region is being affected by a cold air mass.

The weather will be mostly clear in the evening, but increasing clouds will bring isolated showers and light snow or sleet to the mountains. Winds will be mostly from the northwest to the northeast, with gusts ranging from 3 to 4 Beaufort and gusting up to 5 Beaufort offshore. On the west and north coasts, the sea will be slight to moderately choppy, while the east and south coasts will see slightly rough seas. Temperatures will fall to around 2 degrees inland, 5 degrees on the coast, and -5 degrees in the higher mountains. Frost will form in the highlands, mountain bases, and inland areas.

Tomorrow's weather will be mostly clear in most places, but increasing clouds will bring isolated showers and light snow or sleet to the mountains. Winds will be light to moderate (3 to 4 Beaufort) from the northwest to the northeast. On the west and north coasts, the sea will be slightly rough to choppy, while the east and south coasts will be slightly choppy. Temperatures will reach 11 degrees inland, 13 degrees along the coast, and 1 degree higher in the mountains. There will be frost in several highland areas.

Tomorrow night's weather will be mostly clear, with a few clouds in the sky. Winds will be light to moderate (3 to 4 Beaufort) from the northwest to the northeast. The sea will be somewhat rough.

On Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, the sky will be partly cloudy at times, with isolated showers and light snow or sleet in the mountains. Frost is expected in the mountains, highlands, and inland areas in the evening and early morning hours.

Temperatures will be stable on Thursday, rising slightly on Friday and Saturday, but remaining well below climatic averages.

Troodos Square had 59 cm of snow at the time of writing.
