Midweek calm: Sunny skies and standard summer heat

Inland areas settle back into a predictable 39°C as the morning mist burns away.

Newsroom

The seasonal low pressure is still keeping a quiet watch over Cyprus, offering a beautifully straightforward, mostly sunny day. Any lingering morning mist or patches of low cloud will quickly clear out, paving the way for a classic, uninterrupted summer afternoon. For those heading to work or sneaking down to the shore, the heat is distributed exactly how we like it.

The interior temperature will climb to 39°C, which is warm enough to make you look forward to an air-conditioned room, but entirely standard territory for a mid-July afternoon. The southwest and west coasts are the cool spots of the day, checking in at a very pleasant 31°C. The rest of the coastal perimeter will stay at a steady, comfortable 34°C, while the higher mountain peaks of Troodos offer a refreshing escape at 30°C.

Winds will start off onshore and locally variable at a lazy 3 Beaufort, gradually settling into a gentle southwesterly to northwesterly flow at 3 to 4 Beaufort by the afternoon. The west coast might see a slightly rougher surf, but elsewhere, the sea will stay calm to slight, absolutely ideal for a late afternoon swim.

Once the sun sets, the atmosphere remains peaceful but shifts into a slightly more humid gear.

While the skies will stay mostly clear, expect some localized low cloud cover to drift along the coastlines. As we head into the early hours of Thursday morning, patchy mist or fog is highly likely to develop over inland areas and across the southern and eastern districts. Winds will ease down to a faint downslope breeze at 3 Beaufort, and the sea will return to a generally calm, glassy state.

The outlook
Looking ahead, the general weather recipe isn’t changing much as we slide toward the weekend.

Thursday, Friday, and Saturday will follow a familiar routine: wake up to some early morning low clouds and patchy mist, watch it quickly burn off into a mostly sunny day, and repeat. The only minor twist is some midday cloud development over the mountains, which might produce a very brief, isolated shower over the peaks. Temperatures will hold completely steady through Saturday, keeping us locked in just slightly above our seasonal average. Stay hydrated and enjoy the sunshine!
