The Monday morning commute comes with a higher price tag for bus passengers in Nicosia and Larnaca, as new fares take effect on Aug. 3.
According to Cyprus Public Transport, a standard daytime ticket purchased on the bus now costs €2.70, up from €2.40. After 9 p.m., the price of a one-way ticket rises from €4.20 to €4.70.
Passengers using a Motion travel card will also pay more. The daytime fare increases from €1.80 to €2, while the nighttime fare jumps from €2.60 to €3.50.
The individual increases may appear small, but they quickly add up for people who depend on buses to travel to work, school or appointments.
Someone buying two standard daytime tickets on every working day will now spend an additional 60 cents a day. Over a five-day working week, that comes to €3 more, or roughly €12 over four weeks.
The increase applies to services operated by Cyprus Public Transport in Nicosia and Larnaca.
It arrives at a time when households are already keeping a close eye on everyday costs, from supermarket bills and electricity to fuel and housing.
Public transport remains the cheaper option for many passengers, particularly when the cost of driving, parking, and maintaining a car is considered. But for those who have no alternative to the bus, Monday’s increase is not simply a choice between two ways of getting around. It is another unavoidable expense.
