Monday, February 9th: It’s warm, but the sun is hiding

Highs of 20°C make it feel like spring, but the clouds are hiding the sun.

Newsroom

Welcome to Monday! If you are struggling to wake up, the weather is right there with you. A weak low-pressure system is drifting over the area, giving us a soft, grey start to the week. It’s not quite sunny, not quite stormy; just a standard, non-committal Monday.

Today is going to be a day of "intervals." Expect increased cloud cover to come and go, filtering the sunshine but mostly keeping things dry.

The wind will blow from the southwest to northwest, generally light to moderate (3 to 4 Beaufort). However, if you are on the south coast this afternoon, hold onto your hat. Gusts could pick up to a strong 5 Beaufort. The sea will be slightly rough, just to keep things interesting.

Temperature-wise, we are still living in "Fake Spring." We are looking at a very mild 19°C inland, a delightful 20°C on the coasts, and even the highest mountains are sitting at a comfortable 13°C.

Tonight, the clouds will stick around, but the winds will die down to a gentle whisper (3 Beaufort), and the sea will calm.

The outlook

Tuesday (tomorrow): The calm ends after lunch. The day starts partly cloudy, but by midday, the weather wakes up with local rain and isolated thunderstorms, starting in the west.

Wednesday & Thursday: The system spreads out. Expect rain and thunder to cover the rest of the island as the week progresses.

Temperatures will see a gradual decrease, bringing us back down to reality (and normal seasonal levels).

Enjoy the mild air and ignore the grey sky. It's the start of another wonderful week!
