Monday weather bulletin: Calm skies, before the atmosphere starts multitasking

Mostly clear weather and mild temperatures across the island today with only a few afternoon clouds dropping in.

Newsroom

A weak high-pressure system is currently in charge of the region, the atmospheric equivalent of a manager who mostly just keeps things running quietly. Starting Tuesday, a stronger northeasterly airflow will step in, and by Wednesday a thin veil of dust will begin drifting into the atmosphere, adding a slightly hazy filter to the sky.

Today, the weather will stay mostly clear, though some clouds may wander in after midday, apparently curious about what everyone’s doing. Winds will blow northwesterly to northeasterly, while the southwest may see winds turning southeasterly to southwesterly, all at a gentle 3-4 Beaufort. The sea will remain calm to slightly rough, keeping things fairly relaxed along the coast. Temperatures will climb to about 18°C inland, around 20°C along the southeast and east coasts, around 19°C elsewhere on the coast, and about 9°C in the higher mountains.

Tonight, skies will stay mostly clear, perfect for a quiet evening overhead. Winds will remain northwesterly to northeasterly, occasionally variable, generally light at 3 Beaufort, later locally reaching 3-4 Beaufort. The sea will be calm to slightly rough, becoming slightly rougher in the eastern areas later on.

Looking ahead

Tuesday & Wednesday:
The weather continues its calm streak with mostly clear skies, though high clouds will begin appearing late Wednesday afternoon, gradually decorating the sky.

Thursday:
Clouds developing after midday may bring isolated showers, mainly over mountainous areas.

Temperatures will edge slightly upward through Wednesday, before holding steady on Thursday, staying close to or a little above seasonal averages, comfortably mild for this time of year.
