Moo-ving violation as cows on the run cause chaos on Limassol-Nicosia motorway

Truck tips over near Mosfiloti, cows make a break for it, police urge drivers to steer clear (literally).

Newsroom

Morning commuters got more than they bargained for on Thursday, when two cows staged a dramatic escape on the Limassol-Nicosia motorway near the Mosfiloti area, prompting police to issue a rather unusual traffic advisory: watch out for livestock.

The bovine duo made their dash for freedom after the truck transporting them veered off the road and overturned. Thankfully, the driver was unharmed, but the cows weren’t sticking around to file a report.

Police officers quickly rushed to the scene to manage traffic and ensure safety, both human and cow. Drivers heading toward Nicosia were advised to slow down, keep their distance from other vehicles, and, above all, avoid any unexpected encounters with hooved pedestrians.

No injuries have been reported so far, unless you count dented pride and disrupted morning routines. Efforts are underway to corral the four-legged fugitives and bring them back to safety.

“Drive with caution,” police warned, in what may be the most Cyprus-specific traffic alert of the week.

No word yet on whether the cows will face charges, but sources close to the herd say they were simply 'udderly' fed up with their travel conditions.
