More migrant arrivals off Cavo Greco

10 men, two of them minors, were on board, 18 year old arrested

Police arrested an 18-year-old man yesterday to facilitate investigations into the arrival of a boat in the sea area of Famagusta, in which 10 people were on board.

The vessel was spotted at around 1.50 pm yesterday, sailing adrift in the Famagusta sea area, approximately 12 nautical miles southwest of Cape Greco. It was intercepted by a Port and Maritime Police shuttle and was found to have 10 men, two of whom were minors, on board.

The ship's crew and passengers were brought safely ashore. Examinations conducted on the ship revealed that it had left the Syrian coast at dawn on Saturday, November 19. The 18-year-old was the captain of the ship, per the testimony collected, and he was detained to aid the investigations.

The other nine passengers on board were taken to the "Pournara" hospitality center after the examinations were finished.

The case is being investigated by the Famagusta CID.
