Mountain areas tourism product to get new boost

The deputy tourism ministry is eyeing improved nature trails, shelters facilitating bicycle tourism, and other projects aiming to upgrade forest recreation areas

The deputy tourism ministry is joining forces with the forestry department to upgrade the tourism product of mountain and rural areas, focusing on improving nature trails, shelters facilitating bicycle tourism, and other projects aiming to upgrade forest recreation areas.

Among other projects, the deputy tourism ministry is eyeing the upgrading of shelters and resting points along the Troodos cycling route, and improving signs along nature trails such the Madari, Horteri, Kyapsissia, Kionon-Profitis Ilias, Macheras Monastery-Politiko trails.

Forest recreation areas are also expected to see upgraded tables, benches, shelters, dustbins, and other structures.

The projects fall under the 2030 National Tourism Strategy’s goal to boost tourism at the island’s rural and mountain areas.
