A criminal investigation has been launched into the wildfire that broke out at the Kalo Chorio Firing Range, with the General Staff of the National Guard appointing Brigadier General Savvas Stefanou to lead the inquiry.
The investigation will examine how the fire started and the circumstances surrounding the incident. It will also determine whether any disciplinary or criminal offences may have been committed.
In a statement, the Ministry of Defence said the investigation is an essential part of establishing a complete, objective and evidence-based account of what happened.
Authorities said the inquiry is intended to determine the exact conditions under which the fire broke out before any conclusions are reached regarding responsibility.
