The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is ramping up efforts to crack the case of a brazen ambush that unfolded on Tuesday, April 23rd, along the Paleochori - Anthoupolis road. The target? Dimitris Andronikos, also known as "Dimitroui."
Authorities are delving into the victim's past and current activities, scouring for any connections that might shed light on the 34-year-old's assailants.
Recent arsons at betting agencies in Nicosia have caught the attention of investigators, particularly given Dimitroui's visit to an individual linked to those incidents shortly before the attack. This connection has sparked speculation about a possible link between the ambush and underworld vendettas.
Dimitroui, known for his involvement in various police investigations, primarily related to assaults, had ties to Alexis Mavromichalis, who was murdered last October.
The assailants, riding a scooter-type motorcycle, approached their target and opened fire from close range, striking Dimitroui three times, including a shot to the neck. He remains in critical condition at Nicosia General Hospital.
As investigators sift through CCTV footage and other evidence, they remain determined to bring those responsible to justice.
