A 42-year-old woman was apprehended by Paphos Traffic Police on Thursday afternoon after she was found driving in oncoming traffic on the Paphos - Limassol motorway, allegedly under the influence of intoxication and drugs.
Assistant Police Director of Operations of Paphos, Michalis Nikolaou, disclosed that the incident unfolded around 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday when authorities received reports of a saloon vehicle heading towards Limassol in the wrong direction.
A swift response from Paphos Traffic Police led to the vehicle's interception just five minutes later. The driver, identified as a 42-year-old woman from Limassol province, was found behind the wheel.
Upon investigation, it was revealed that the woman's alcohol level measured 82Mg, significantly surpassing the legal limit of 22Mg. Furthermore, she reportedly tested positive for drugs during a screening.
The woman was promptly taken into custody and escorted to Paphos Police, where she was formally charged in writing and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date. The incident underscores the dangers of driving under the influence and highlights the vigilance of law enforcement in ensuring road safety.
