Scorched & unbothered: Your daily dose of fiery forecasts

Heat warnings in force from late Sunday through Monday afternoon.

Newsroom

The Meteorological Department has graciously renewed its two-part weather warning for those of us who dared to think summer might take a break. Spoiler: it won’t.

First up, the yellow warning, our gentle reminder that “it’s going to be hot” from 10 p.m. Sunday until 9 a.m. Monday, August 11. Think of it as the appetizer.

Then, for the main course, we’re serving a full-bodied orange alert from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, because what’s life without a little drama in the form of 43°C air pressing down on your soul?

Today’s plotline:
A seasonal low pressure system and a warm air mass have decided to team up, and frankly, they’re thriving. Expect mostly clear skies, nature’s way of ensuring the sun has an unobstructed shot at you.

Winds will start off light and indecisive (3 Beaufort), but by the afternoon, they’ll pick a side, southwesterly to northwesterly, and up their game to a strong 4 to 5 Beaufort in the western coastal areas. The sea will be calm to slightly rough, perfect for those who enjoy warm baths… outdoors… involuntarily.

Temperatures will mimic your friendly neighborhood oven:

Inland: 43°C (Yes, you read that right.)

Southern & Eastern coasts: 36°C

Western & Northern coasts, high mountains: 34°C (a “cool” reprieve, comparatively speaking)

Tonight:
Still clear, because the heat wants you to see it. Winds will be mainly northwesterly at a polite 3 Beaufort, locally up to 4. The sea remains calm-ish. Temperatures will drop only enough to mock you:

Inland & Northern coasts: 25°C

Other coasts: 26°C

Higher mountains: 22°C

The sequel (Tuesday–Thursday):
More clear skies. Temperatures will hold steady on Tuesday, then rise again by Thursday, staying stubbornly well above normal. In short, the sun’s reign continues, and your ice cubes don’t stand a chance.
