In an incident at Nicosia General Hospital, a disruption in electrical power was caused by the cutting of a cable during external construction work.
The spokesperson for the Health Services Organization (HSO), Charalambos Charilaou, assured that the damage would be permanently repaired by Wednesday morning after the expected component delivery.
Charilaou explained that the alternative plan was immediately activated, with generators kicking in and an alternative power route established. Critical areas, such as operating rooms and the Intensive Care Unit, continued functioning seamlessly.
Only non-essential departments, like external clinics and the pharmacy, were temporarily left without power to prevent additional strain on the generators.
"All went smoothly, no lives were at risk. The issue was identified as a cable cut during external construction work. We expect the component today, and the damage will be repaired by tomorrow morning," added Charilaou.
