A 26-year-old man from Nicosia has been arrested on child porn charges, after Europol tipped off local authorities about a video on Facebook.
According to police, members of the cyber crime unit arrested the local resident following information they received from Europol that a person with a specific Facebook account had sent a video described as having “child porn” content.
It was not immediately clear whether the suspect had shared the video publicly, with friends only, or privately, but media sources said the content was in the form of an actual video archive and not a web link.
Cops detained the man Thursday on an arrest warrant while also confiscating his mobile phone as material evidence. On Friday, a Nicosia Distrcit Court judge ordered the suspect in remanded custody for four days.
According to media reports, the suspect admitted to committing the offence, with police from the cyber crime unit carrying on with the investigation.
