Cyprus authorities have uncovered one of the largest drug consignments seen in recent years, seizing more than 190 kilograms of narcotics during a coordinated operation in Nicosia.

The raid, carried out by the Anti-Drug Service (YKAN), followed several days of surveillance and the assessment of intelligence gathered by investigators. What officers discovered inside a warehouse surpassed expectations: over 140 kilograms of cannabis and more than 50 kilograms of cocaine, quantities police say would have had a significant impact on the local market had they reached circulation.

Two men, aged 34 and 26, have been arrested in connection with the case. According to police sources, the storage facility where the drugs were found is believed to be linked to the 34-year-old suspect.

Beyond the narcotics, officers also recovered a cache of weapons and other dangerous materials. These included three pistols, one of which was a replica, 30 rounds of ammunition, two improvised explosive devices, and more than 11,000 firecrackers. Authorities also confiscated €12,765 in cash believed to be connected to the operation.

Police sources described the seizure as one of the largest made by YKAN in recent years. Authorities estimate that a substantial quantity of drugs was intercepted before it could reach the public, preventing a significant volume of narcotics from entering society.

The investigation remains ongoing, with forensic examinations and further analysis of evidence continuing. Officials have indicated that additional developments are expected as inquiries progress.
