Imran Khan, Pakistan's former prime minister, has been shot. According to international media, the assassination attempt occurred during a protest march in Islamabad.
Former Prime Minister and veteran cricketer Imran Khan, 70, was leading a protest march in Islamabad calling for early elections.
The former prime minister was injured in the shin and is currently being treated.
The shooting happened near the former prime minister's motorcade, according to Reuters, citing local news channels. "With an automatic weapon, a man opened fire. A number of people were hurt. Imran Khan has also been injured "Asad Umar, a Pakistani MP, told Reuters.

According to the French news agency, the gunman was shot and killed.

Khan, a former prime minister as well as a veteran cricketer, was leading a protest march in Islamabad calling for early elections.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the attack and requested an immediate investigation from the interior minister.

One person has been arrested by police.
