Police in Paphos are trying to identify and locate the person behind a bomb threat that caused an immediate evacuation at a local high school on Wednesday.
According to media reports, police received a phone call on Wednesday morning from an unknown person who warned of a bomb placed at the Paphos Technical School in downtown.
The school was immediately evacuated as officers from the bomb squad and sniffing dogs from the K-9 unit carried a thorough search that yielded no explosive substances or anything suspicious.
The incident comes three days after multiple evacuations had been ordered in two shopping malls, a casino, and a flight that was just about ready to take off in Larnaca. Two Russian nationals were questioned over a prank email sent to the airport but it was later reported that they had been victims of computer hacking.
A similar school bomb scare also took place in Nicosia last month, when school administrators at a private institution received a call and quickly notified police. An evacuation was ordered immediately while nothing had been found out of place.
