A bedroom inside a Nicosia district home had allegedly been transformed into a carefully controlled cannabis farm, complete with indoor greenhouses, irrigation pipes, and equipment regulating temperature and humidity.
Drug squad officers searched the home of a 35-year-old man Sunday under a court warrant and found nine cannabis plants growing inside two specially adapted tents.
Some of the plants had reached 1.9 meters, taller than many of the officers who may have entered the room. The smallest measured 1.15 meters.
Police also seized approximately 1.6 kilograms of cannabis and about 90 grams of a white powder believed to be cocaine. The substance will need to be examined to confirm what it is.
A precision scale was also found, along with machinery used to control growing conditions, watering pipes, and other equipment allegedly connected to the cultivation operation.
The 35-year-old was arrested at the scene and is expected to appear before Nicosia District Court on Monday, where police will request that he remain in custody while the investigation continues.
The Morphou unit of the Cyprus Drug Law Enforcement Unit is investigating the case.
